4H – 2019-2020

Welcome to Year 4

As we are unable to hold parent meetings, this page should give you answers to many things you may want to know.

  • Miss Howarth – Year 4 Class Teacher
  • Mrs Tomlin – Teaching Assistant
  • Miss Tupling – PPA and NQT Time Cover (Thursday – full day)

Key Dates for Autumn term

23rd Oct – break up for half term
2nd Nov – return to school for Autumn 2
18th Dec – break up for Christmas holidays

We don’t have any trips or visits planned at the moment, however, you will be told in advance if we do make any plans.

Class Routines

Our PE day is now a Tuesday. Please send your children into school in their PE kit to save them having to change at school. As we are approaching winter, pupils can wear a tracksuit over the top of their PE kit as we are trying to do our PE lessons outdoors as much as possible. Could you please ensure that your child is wearing SCHOOL PE kit, this consists of a white t-shirt and burgundy or black shorts. Trainers or plimsolls are also required on these days.

Home reading books must be returned to school with your child’s reading record (even if your child hasn’t finished their book) on a FRIDAY. These will be kept in school over the weekend and handed back out on a MONDAY (with a new book if needed or the same book if they haven’t finished).

Please read with your child at least 3 times per week and note this in their reading record.

Homework and spellings will start getting handed out in the coming weeks. There will be an update posted on this page or Class Dojo regarding this.

Brass

In Year 4, we learn to play a brass instrument. Our lesson is on a Friday morning and we have an instructor – Mr Hind – who comes in to teach us.

Please see our topic web to find out what we are learning about this term

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Miss Howarth.

Autumn Term 2020

Show Racism the Red Card – Wear Red Day 2020

Black History Month

To help us understand more about Black History Month, the children looked at Martin Luther King Jr’s ‘I have a dream’ speech. They then thought about what they would have included if it was their own speech. They discussed their ideas and created a short class speech for our display. The children also researched other inspirational black individuals such as Rosa Parks, Mary Seacole, Barack Obama, Nelson Mandela and George Washington Carver.

Greek Food Tasting

We were lucky enough to taste some Greek food from Acropolis, a vendor in The Stack Seaburn. We enjoyed chicken gyros, chips, salad, pitta bread and tzatziki. We wrote some reviews to tell you what we thought.

Brass

Every Friday morning, we have a brass lesson with Mr. Hind. Over the last few weeks, we have learned to play C, D, and E notes and are starting to make some fabulous sounds 🎺

Athletics

On Thursday 22nd October, we took part in an athletics event. We all took part in different events, such as a 50m sprint, 400m long distance, overarm throw, and a standing long jump.

Halloween Activity Day
On the last Friday of half term, Y4H enjoyed some Halloween themed activities. We all had a turn to search for prizes in a gruesome bucket of worms, and then we made our own slime using cornflour, water and shampoo. It’s safe to say things got very messy, very quickly!

Children in Need 2020

Working from home didn’t stop Y4H from joining in with Children in Need! We played online Pudsey bingo, completed a scavenger hunt and had a go at drawing Pudsey himself!
