4T – 2019-2020

Welcome to Year 4T

As we are unable to hold parent meetings, this page should give you answers to many things you may want to know.

  • Miss Turnbull – Year 4 Class Teacher
  • Miss Wigham – Teaching Assistant
  • Mrs Harrison – PPA Cover (Thursday AM)

Key Dates for Autumn term

23rd Oct – break up for half term
2nd Nov – return to school for Autumn 2
18th Dec – break up for Christmas holidays

We don’t have any trips or visits planned at the moment, however, you will be told in advance if we do make any plans.

Class Routines

Our PE day is now a Tuesday. Please send your children into school in their PE kit to save them having to change at school. As we are approaching winter, pupils can wear a tracksuit over the top of their PE kit as we are trying to do our PE lessons outdoors as much as possible. Could you please ensure that your child is wearing SCHOOL PE kit, this consists of a white t-shirt and burgundy or black shorts. Trainers or plimsolls are also required on these days.

Home reading books must be returned to school with your child’s reading record (even if your child hasn’t finished their book) on a FRIDAY. These will be kept in school over the weekend and handed back out on a MONDAY (with a new book if needed or the same book if they haven’t finished).

Please read with your child at least 3 times per week and note this in their reading record.

Homework and spellings will start getting handed out in the coming weeks. There will be an update posted on this page or Class Dojo regarding this.

Brass

In Year 4, we learn to play a brass instrument. Our lesson is on a Friday morning and we have an instructor – Mr Hind – who comes in to teach us.

Please see our topic web to find out what we are learning about this term

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Miss Turnbull

Autumn Term 2020

Show Racism the Red Card – Wear Red Day 2020

Here We Are

For the first two weeks of our new year, we based all of our literacy work around the Here We Are. It gave the opportunity for the children to have lots of discussions about how we need to look after our planet as “it’s the only one we’ve got”. The children wrote a poem as a class and then wrote their own poems, we wrote our own song and made posters about how to look after our planet.

Self-portraits

Concrete Maths

Y4T have been using the CPA approach to help them deepen their mathematical understanding of addition and subtraction. The children have worked incredibly hard to recap and build new knowledge of written methods to allow them to solve problems.

DT- Greek Sandals

On a Thursday morning, the children have been working with Mrs Harrison to make their very own Greek sandals. The children had to evaluate a sandal to think about what it needed to be; comfortable, hard-wearing, etc. They then went on to create the straps using a range of different techniques.

Remembrance Day 2020

To commemorate Remembrance Day this year, our class worked hard to create some pieces of artwork and written work to be showcased as part of our display on the school fence for the community to enjoy. We made soldiers and filled them with words that come to mind when we think about those who fought and continue to fight for our country. We also took part in the two-minute silence.

Children in Need

For children in need this year, the children came to school dressed in yellow, spots, or something Pudsey related. We made our own Pudsey makes and also had lots of fun using our maths skills to crack some codes.

Anti-Bullying Week

To kick off anti-bullying week, the children showed their support by wearing odd socks. We talked about how everyone is different and that that should be celebrated.
