Curriculum – Music

Subject Lead for Music: Miss G Price

‘Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity.’ (2013, New National Curriculum, DFES)

At Seaham Trinity Primary School, we aim to ensure that all of our pupils are able to appreciate, empathise and be included in a fun, challenging musical environment.

From Foundation Stage through to KS2, children will be given equal opportunities to develop their knowledge in the history, composition and performing of music.

Using the Charanga scheme of work, staff have clear objectives as to what skills need to be taught and how children should progress through the key stages.  Our staff will differentiate resources provided, to enhance all children’s learning experiences.

Co-in siding this with creative links to topics, understanding of other cultures and PSCHE, our children will express and enjoy their music experience within our primary school.

Learning to play an instrument in our school:

  • As part of ‘First Access Durham Music Service’ we have fabulous opportunities for Year 4 children to learn to play a brass instrument, as part of their music lessons. These lessons are available to continue privately in Years 5 and 6. Our Year 3 children are taught ukulele and private guitar lessons are offered to children in Years 5 and 6.

Mr Nigel Hind and Mr Chris Charlton are our fabulous peripatetic music teachers who encourage the children into playing and performing.
